About 4pm I started having some contractions, although at first I didn't think they were the real thing. They were coming really close together, basically one on top of the other. I sat down and started timing them, and finished getting my bags packed just in case. After about 2 hours of all this I got a little nervous because there was just no time in between contractions and my stomach was staying rock hard the whole time. I called Harriet, my second mom :), and labor and delivery nurse. She told me to make sure I could still feel baby move, which I could, to sit and time the contractions, and drink some water. If I was still nervous to go in. Well, I did that for about 10 minutes and the contractions began to get really bad. I decided it was probably a good idea to go in. Mike had called a few minutes before all of this, and told me he was on his way home, but in traffic. I didn't want to call him and worry him, so I decided just to wait til he got home. I got everything ready that we needed and hoped that this was not a false alarm. I did not want to go to the hospital and get sent home! Mike arrived home at 6:15 and I told him he needed to change into some comfortable clothes. He asked why and I told him we were going to the hospital. He got excited and asked if I was sure it was time. I assured him that we needed to go, and we loaded the car. Off we went.
We got to the hospital at 6:45. They put me in a room and hooked me up to a monitor. The contractions were indeed coming very close together and I was dilated to a 6! Woo hoo not getting sent home! We settled in, I had to be on the monitor for 20 minutes and then could unplug and move around. We called the parents to let them know what was going on. We had a little trouble getting a hold of Meghan, she was to be my second birth partner, but we reached her and she hurried in. The contractions got quite painful, but manageable until about 9:00. I decided it was time for the epidural. They paged the doc, and I was feeling so much pain and pressure, I was afraid they were going to tell me it was too late! But all was fine and I got the epidural! Love those things. Everyone makes their own choices about how to labor and birth and I totally respect that, but give me the wonderful epidural everytime!!! Once it kicked in I was able to relax and rest a bit before the real work began. I quickly finished dilating and about 11pm they told me I could start pushing if I wanted. But I still needed to finish my round of antibiotics, so I opted to labor down for an hour while those got into me.
At midnight, I could really feel constant pressure and knew I better start pushing. I started pushing just a couple minutes after midnight and Jacoby was born at 12:14am, yeah, only 12 minutes or so of pushing. Good job baby! They immediately put him on my chest. He was purple, but started crying after a few seconds, so they were able to let him stay on my chest and delay cutting his cord. After a few minutes they took him to clean and weigh him. He weighed 8 lbs 9 oz!!! Big boy! I couldn't believe he came out as easy as he did as big as he was. He was 20.5 inches long and his head circumference was 37.5 cm.
We came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. It was wonderful to be home. It is much easier to relax in your own bed and own home. So far, Jacoby is doing great. Last night he let us get 7 hours of sleep total. He is feeding awesome, and is generally pretty chill. He does not like to have his diaper changed, but he tolerates everything else.
Big brother Trevor was super happy to meet him and we can already tell how wonderful he will be with Jacoby. I am sure they will get into plenty of mischief in the future :)
We have our 2 day hospital follow up tomorrow and an appointment with Trevor. That will be Jacoby's first outing. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get ready and out the door now. Hopefully he lets us get as much rest tonight, as he did last night.
When I have a little more time I will post a bunch of pics, but for now here is one of my favorites so far!

YAY!
